Program Objectives

The department prepares and trains students in the areas of culture, arts and letters, and the sciences. It intends to form graduates who are imbued with Christian values who have the capacity for human leadership, and who will become the media for practical expression or concerned and responsive citizenship. The liberal arts program provides adequate preparation for the fields of law, priesthood, governance, public service and administration, politics, research, education, media and communication, and business and industry, among others.

LIBERAL ARTS
Government Recognition
A.B. NO.135, S.1968

The program aims to prepare and train students in the areas of Social Sciences and Communications and in other professional disciplines.

It expects the graduates to:

  1. effect changes in himself/herself and his/her environment to realize fullness of human life; and
  2. develop the degree of competence in his/her chosen field of specialization needed for immediate gainful employment, or as foundation for further training beyond the baccalaureate degree .

PHILOSOPHY MAJOR
A Philosophy major graduate is one who :

  1. has developed sufficient awareness of the current trends in traditional and contemporary philosophy, both Western and Asian;
  2. thinks analytically and logically;
  3. has acquired a coherent but open personal philosophy;
  4. understands man and his existence; and
  5. performs logical studies useful for interaction with man and the contemporary world.

POLITICAL SCIENCE MAJOR
A Political Science major graduate is one who :

  1. possesses insights into the major concepts, ideologies and problems of government;
  2. exercises humanizing influence on governmental and political affairs;
  3. demonstrates compassionate Christian leadership; and
  4. manifest concern for various sectors of society as they are affected by formulated public policies.

COMMUNICATION MAJOR
A Communication graduate is one who :

  1. appreciates the nature and social role of the various media, e.g. broadcast, journalism, their structure, functions, philosophy  and ethics and their impact on society;
  2. has developed competencies in media practice to a level where these can be a profitable and responsible career opportunity; and
  3. engages in media practice to heighten awareness and exert moral influence on various concerns and issues to improve the quality of life in society .

RELIGIOUS STUDIES MAJOR
A Religious Studies major graduate is one who:

  1. exhibits a certain degree of knowledge necessary for specialization in theological studies;
  2. exhibits skills in the planning, implementation and execution of catechetical formation programs;
  3. shows familiarity with the various aspects of religious studies, instruction and formation;
  4. exhibits worthwhile insights that spring from duties and moral obligations of both teachers and students;
  5. develops necessary qualities expected of a religion formator and teacher; and 6. exhibits competence in its preparation of instructional materials and in
  6. involvement in the religious formation ministry .

EDUCATION PROGRAM

This department aims to prepare students to be effective Christian classroom teachers in the various elementary and secondary schools. It expects the graduates to:

  1. demonstrate the following qualities, skills, and competencies in:
      a.) the art of teaching
      b.) the formation of pupils and students
      c.) relating with school personnel
      d.) dealing with the community
  2. show evidence of moral and ethical behavior, integrity, emotional stability, dependability, fellowship, leadership and well-rounded wholesome personality.

ENGLISH
An English major graduate is one who could demonstrate language competencies necessary to develop in the learners:

  1. listening strategies imperative for information processing, thinking skills, reasoning ability, and appreciation of the arts;
  2. speaking abilities necessary for effective communication and expression of thoughts and feeling;
  3. reading skills required for comprehending the literal, inferential, critical, interpretative and integrative meanings of written works; and
  4. writing skills needed to write clearly, creatively and imaginatively for specific purposes, and to choose the appropriate written medium for the effective expression of one's thoughts and feelings.

FILIPINO
Ang edukasyong pangguro na nagpakadalubhasa sa Filipino ay nagnanais na makalinang ng mga mag-aaral na:

  1. matatas sa masining na pakikipagtalastasan sa wikang Filipino sa iba't-ibang stratehiya ng komunikasyon;
  2. malawak ang pagkakilala at pagpahalaga sa mga akdang pampanitikang Filipino;
  3. masigasig na nakikilahok sa pagpapalaganap ng wikang Filipino sa iba't- ibang larangan ng wika;
  4. ganap ang kaalaman sa sining ng komunikayon sa Filipino upang makabahagi ng kakayahan sa pagtuturo ng wika; at
  5. sanay sa pakikipagtalastasam sa wikang Filipino sa isang maka-Diyos, makabayan at makataong pakikipagsalamuha sa kapwa.

SOCIAL STUDIES
A graduate whose major field is in Social Studies is concerned with the:

  1. formation of citizens who are broad-minded, equipped with critical thinking and sound judgment and are capable of exercising influence on current situations;
  2. cultivation of persons with a suitable philosophical background able to do a just evaluation of world events in the contemporary scene;
  3. intensification of appreciation for our Filipino heritage and national identity and;
  4. thorough mastery of historical concepts, insights and trends so as to inculcate others in the subject.

HOME ECONOMICS AND TECHNOLOGY (TEKNOLOHIYANG PANTAHANAN)
Ang mga mag-aaral na nagpakadalubhasa sa Teknolohiyang Pantahanan ay may mga sumusunod na layunin:

  1. tapat na pagpapahalaga sa trabaho na makapag-uudyok sa mga mag-aaral ng kasigasigan sa paggawa;
  2. makapagpamalas ng kadalubhasaan sa paggamit ng iba't-ibang, pamamaraan at mga kasangkapan sa Teknolohiyang Pantahanan (HET) at;
  3. makibahagi ng kakayahan at kaalaman para sa pagsasarili at sa pambansang kaunlaran.

MATHEMATICS
A Mathematics major graduate is one who has the capacity to:

  1. acquire a deep and broad knowledge of the history , methods, content, structure and development of pure mathematics;
  2. possess knowledge and mathematical methods of statistics and apply the same in research and in other social problems;
  3. learn techniques for operating mathematical tools including the construction and use of mathematical models;
  4. develop worthwhile interests and desirable Christian values which are essential for the practice of their profession; and
  5. acquire mathematical skills applicable to a wide variety of situations.

MUSIC, ARTS AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION (MAPE) PHYSICAL EDUCATION, HEALTH AND MUSIC (PEHM)
At the end of the course, graduates of the program shall exhibit the following qualities and competencies:

  1. skill in recreational leadership, theory and practice of games, and the management and supervision of play activities;
  2. familiarity with a variety of musical instruments and choral materials for learners at different levels in ensemble performance;
  3. familiarity with concepts, materials and techniques of drawing and other forms of art activities; and
  4. depth in understanding of the Philosop~y of Physical Education, Art Education, Music Education and Health Education.
